When my Aunt passed away in 2001, I received a tote full of family photographs. Although I could name most of the people in the photos, there was one woman who I couldn’t identify.
Though she is a contemporary of my Great Aunts, I am not sure who she is. I have run down the women in the family who were around at that time, and I am still stumped.
This Mystery Woman appears in this photograph, being held up by my Great Aunt Edith on her left, and my Great Aunt Lillian on the right. My Great Aunts are wearing what I thought may be either camp uniforms or bathing suit coverups. My Great Aunts were born in 1908 and 1906 respectively, and appear to be in their 20’s in this photo. So, let’s estimate 1925. Below are some photos of the other young women in the family from 1925-ish:

- My Great Aunt Helen H.M. – I only have a photo of her in later life.
- One of my Great Aunts’ half-sisters, Clara or Annie, whom I do not have photos of
- Lastly, the Mystery Woman could be just a friend of the family.
That this woman has been forgotten in history is just heart-breaking to me. Maybe you, the public, can identify her. What are your thoughts on the Mystery Woman?
